Life imprisonment in Mumbai blasts: Abu Salem
Mumbai's TADA
Special Court ordered to give life imprisonment to Abu Salem, one of the
convicts in the 1993 blasts. However, the Portugal court could not
sentence Abu Salem to the gallows according to the terms of the
extradition rule. In addition to Abu Salem, one of the conspirators, in
this case, Karimulla, has also been sentenced to life imprisonment. On
Thursday, the TADA special court had to announce the sentence of the
culprits in the Mumbai blast case. Abu Salem and Karimulla will be fined
Tk 200 million in addition to their life, the court said.On Thursday,
11/11, the accused in the Mumbai blasts case were brought to Tada Court.
Within a short time, the trial proceedings of the court began. In 1993,
12 serial blasts on March 12 were in Mumbai. In this incident, 257
people were killed and more than 700 injured. Five people, including
gangster Abu Salem, were convicted by the Tadar Special Court on June 16
this year for the tragic sabotage. There were a total of 123 accused in
this case. From 2003 to 2010, all of them were arrested. In 2003,
Mustafa Dosha was first arrested in this case. The TADA court has
already convicted him. On 16th June, the court convicted Abu Salem,
Karimullah Khan, Tahir Merchant, Firoz Khan, in the Bombay Explosion
case. The murder and conspiracy case was filed against them. In addition
to these four, the name of another accused named Riaz Siddiqui came up.
Riaz found evidence of involvement with the blast. The TADA court
ordered Tahir Merchant and Firoz Khan to be given life imprisonment but
the court did not sentence Abu Salam for his extradition. The Portuguese
government agreed to surrender the conditional to Abu Salem in Portugal
in 2005. The original condition was that the Indian government could
not be sentenced to death for Abu Salem and he could not be tried for
more than 25 years. India is ready to agree on this condition. On 11
September 2005 Abu Salem was arrested. On Thursday, he was sentenced to
death in another case, including the Mumbai blasts. However, the two
cases have been found to be arranged together. On the other hand,
another accused Riaz Siddiqui also ordered a fine of 10 years in jail
and Tk 10 thousand to TADA court.
